How it works

How to compare a solar quote

  1. 1

Start with one offer.Upload a PDF or clear image, or enter the figures yourself. Check each extracted number against the original.

  2. 2

Separate equipment from financing.Keep battery and roof work separate from solar-only pricing. Compare cash price, loan principal and the complete payment schedule.

  3. 3

Look at total spending.A smaller utility bill is not the same as net savings after a loan payment. Review the questions before requesting a written clarification or installer introduction.

Worked example

$3.00

per watt

A worked price-per-watt example

An illustrative $24,000 solar-only cash price for an 8 kW DC system is $24,000 ÷ 8,000 watts = $3.00 per watt. That is arithmetic, not a fair-price benchmark. If the package also includes a battery or roof work, separate those costs before making this comparison.

Questions

Solar quote review questions

How do I know if my solar quote is too high?

Start with the gross cash price for the same equipment and work. Divide solar-only cash dollars by system size in DC watts, then compare actual offers with similar scope. A single price-per-watt number cannot tell you whether the roof work, equipment, service terms or production assumptions are reasonable.

Does the checker tell me the fair price for my roof?

No. It checks arithmetic and highlights missing information using the numbers you confirm. It does not inspect your roof, authenticate the proposal, verify an installer or set a local market price. An installer must verify the design and give you a written price for your home.

Can I check a financed solar proposal?

Yes. Enter the cash price, financed principal, payment, term and APR when available. The review separates the cash-to-financed price gap from interest and adds the stated loan payment to the estimated remaining utility bill. Payment changes, escalators, balloon payments and prepayments need separate review.

Will uploading my proposal trigger sales calls?

No. The proposal is read inside your browser and is not uploaded to our server or sent to an installer. You can see the review without entering contact details. An installer introduction is a separate request requiring your permission, contact information and phone number.

What if the reader misses a number?

Enter or correct the figure yourself before checking the quote. The reader matches explicit labels, and unusual layouts or scanned documents may need manual entry. Leave unknown figures blank and compare one offer at a time.
